Just wanted to say I have this same problem with Toshiba Satellite
A35-S139 I tried hpet=disable to no avail. Note I also booted with
Fedora 10 live cd and it has the same problem.

I am having the same problem, I can't start cups; "service cups start"
returns "start: Job failed to start". I cannot reinstall or update cups
now also. I checked the symlink and it is correct. Any other ideas?
