I reproduced this issue on my Desktop. (with the Jaunty Desktop iso and a 2Go
USB stick)
In my point of view, it is a hardware issue, as :
With my Desktop [AMD64 + HardDrive S-ATA] , I reproduce BusyBox every time.
With my Dell Laptop : Never got any issue with the same USB stick.

I'm having the same issue. (I thought I was alone ;-)
I use Firefox (last version) in Ubuntu Hardy + Exaile + VLC
My sound card is integrated in the motherboard (NVIDIA nForce2 chipset + AMD
Athlon XP 2600+)
Test case Number 1 :
Using Firefox, I go on a WebSite that will "catch" my sound
Mistake :
Then stopping Firefox
VLC (video): Sound OK +video OK
Totem (video): Sound OK +video OK
MPlayer Movie Player (video): Sound OK +video OK
Audacious (music): plays music OK
Exaile (music): plays music OK
