create file in home directory called compstart,

I too have this problem, and adjusting the PNG Plugin in Compiz makes no
difference. Reproducible every time. (I do a lot of stretching terminal
windows). As Berdir found, it happens occasionally by itself.

Same for me. The fix was to comment out the line for the theme (in my
case Glossy) in the .gtkrc-2.0 file. GAP would then close.

I am also getting Kdesktop crash at shutdown, Sigsegv 11. This occurs either
using the Shutdown of KDE or pressing the power button of the PC briefly.
Edgy on AMD64 3700, KDE3.5.5. Nvidia 9629, onboard Geforce 6100.

Just wanna say this is still a very active bug. Just spent two days
trying to get Lubuntu 17.04 64-bit installed and gave up. Tried 16.04
and went with 0 issues.
