I think the too fast fix keep a case for that bug.
Try this:
- create a new user
- put a password -> ok
- then with a console su new_user
- change the password as required
- go back in the user's password via gui
- do NOTHING just click ok
- go back to the console, su new_user again
- still OLD pa

In my opinion this bug is also a Linux failure.
This is because there are THOUSAND of different distributions, kernels, patched
kernels, libraries ecc.
I know this is an advantage for someone, but for companies that have to write
drivers and have:
- different version of libs in different distros
in Kubuntu there is no default selectable.

- the original bug report is fixed, but I have found two more cases that aren't
fixed, the two I've writed after, and for these I have reopened the bug
- kde 3.5.4 is installed, but the problem is in kde-guidance that isn't part of
kde I think, anyway the two p
1) I didn't change the password with 'passwd', I only login for the first time
the new_user and after the password the system asked me to change it, after
changed it, you logout, go to edit via kde-guidance and just click ok and the
previous password was restored.
I _never_ open at the same time
ok probably in svn something is changed, I cannot test kde-guidance that
Riddell provides today in IRC because it cannot load the correct module
in dapper, probably it is only for Edgy :(

Same bug here with Kubuntu Edgy, but never met before with Dapper and
the same hardware.
Please fix the problem, if you need a ssh login just ask, but fix this
annoying problem, changed to confirmed!

Until Feisty the kernel option ide=nodma at least removed the error messages
and speed-up the boot and of course decreased hard disk performance, now withy

well in my comment on 2007-05-12 I said that probably there is a easiest
way without changing kubuntu-meta at all, but all ignored me :(

in our case, the optimization level definitely made the difference. On
the new system described above, switching from -O3 to -O2 removed the
error. Our older systems, which were compiled with -O2

ok Alexander you are right anyway why in your opinion under Windows I
can use 192.168.1.1 ad DNS and under Linux I have to specify DNS from my
provider?
This is very common not only on my pc but also others I have installed Ubuntu.
Should I open a new bug for this issue?

new kernel arrived 2.6.22-13 but no fix yet.
If someone can rebuild the ubuntu-modules package with the patch would be
appreciated a lot.

Anyway also the patch attached here seems autodated because applying it
to the source module then go ahead but fails to compile after. So I
think it is very important to update this source package because totally
broken for Gutsy.

kernel 2.6.23 will never reach Gutsy, because it's only 6 days distance for
final.
That kernel and probably a newer one will be in Gutsy+1.
So all that we can ask for now is if Fred's patch will reach Gutsy.

seems that this bug is fixed, tried dvd snapshot 11 oct 2007 with
ubiquity 1.6.6 and Italian installed fine also without network.
