seems to be related to starting the NetworkManager in a root shell. But
still I have the problem with connecting to the mobile operator with
NetworkManager.

Dim's proposed fix does not work for me.
Ater restarting the X server the mouse pointer appears again.

I can confirm this on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 510m).
Suspend works when from menu but not when lid is closed.
I will try the patch and report the result.
