If I understood stgraber correctly, the fix for bug 813065 is intended
for Intel cards and he suggested submitting a new report for Nvidia.

Note that the deb provided for download on the MySQL site is linked
against libzip1 because it was built for natty whereas precise now
provides only libzip2. In other words, the package provided by MySQL no
longer works out of the box on Ubuntu.
In the meantime, the simple (and risky) workaround:
It's a bug because it's done that way on every other Ubuntu flavor, on the same
machine. There is a clear and obvious pattern and one of them is doing
something different and unpredictable.
I also personally am not a fan of swap, but the installer still creates it by
default. I imagine this is p
On my MacBookPro 6,2 the bug is not reproducible on Oneiric. The
keyboard backlight controls work correctly out-of-the-box.

Work around:
Select "Sound settings" (or "Sound" from "System settings), and use that volume
slider.
Since that volume slider is working, I don't believe this to be an alsa issue.
