This is the .diff file for the new upstream release - sdlmame 0.135.
A fixed watch file as suggested by Fabrice is included.
To build the source package use:
zcat sdlmame_0.135-0ubuntu1.diff.gz | patch -p0
cd sdlmame-0.135
chmod +x debian/rules

mv sdlmame_0.135.orig.ta
Hello Fabrice,
retrieving whatsnew.txt from the net is just a quick fix for the current
release. Upstream maintainers didn't bother to repack the zipfile, but
it will be back with 0.137. Putting whatsnew.txt in debian would require
some changes in debian/rules. If you feel it would be cleaner, ho
Hello Fabrice,
here's the new diff.gz, including fixes to changelog entry and
debian/control file, as well as whatsnew.txt now in debian (rules

Mame now depends on rapidjson >= 1.0 in Debian unstable.
Please sync the package in bionic to help syncing Mame as well.

This is by design: hidden directory like .mame are for configuration and
run-time data purposes.
For resource files (roms, samples etc.) a subdirectory is more

Please note architecture size is a different matter from pointer size.
You're right for the former, whilst pointer size on ppc64 is 8 byte:

This matter has been long debated within Mame packagers, and has finally
been agreed that:
- configuration and runtime files and subdirectories must lie in the
hidden directory ~/.mame. The reason is that the user doesn't need to
see them though he/she may like to (e.g. to share the snapshot take

Unfortunately, I've never been able to reproduce the bug. Also please
note the mame-common package was superseded by mame/mess/mess-data

Could we please consider this closed?

I can't use 0.146-5ubuntu1 because it would be greater than raring version to
dpkg.
I can't use 0.146-4.99ubuntu1 because it's not true.
Do you reckon 0.146-5~ubuntu12.10 could be a good choice?
