I had the same error when trying to create a livecd myself.
Post-installation script tries to determine if /etc/init.d/idmapd and
/etc/init.d/gssd are executable, but those files don't exist so the script
crashes.
I just created two empty files and then I installed the package with no
errors.

But can anybody explain or point to some place where acpi=noirq is explained.

Hi!
I am new to UBUNTU but I think I partially solved the problem.
My pc specs:
ASUS M2R32-MVP
AMD 64 x2 6000+ & 2 GB of RAM
IDE Maxtor 120Gigs & SATA WD 640Gigs
I partitioned my SATA drive as follows:
sda1: ntfs ->100 GB for windows xp sp3
sda2: ext3 -> 50 GB for Ubuntu Hardy Heron
sda3:ntfs -
