I bought a PCI Express card (PEXUSB3S44V from Startech, see

is the most expensive card you can get (I was hoping to rule out certain
things with that).

I am also affected by this horrible show stopper bug.
Using Arch Linux and chromium browser. Seeing that this has been reported 8
months ago and the severity is set to "undecided" for chromium, it is clear
that I'll have to start to use a different browser. This saddens me a lot :(

Nevermind my last comment. This works in chromium (no idea about snapd).
To get this to work in chromium, first make sure it works for xdg-open.

Hi, I have the same problem; I upgraded from ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 (one
LTS release to the next). To my astonishment afterwards I couldn't get
into my bank accounts anymore because I can't decrypt my files!
The output of the original conversion is:

In my case I ran out of diskspace in /usr which required a temporary 4

I replaced my RAID5 (three disks) with a SSD. For this I needed a complete
fresh install of the OS to the new SSD (I had debian wheezy, now wanting to use

I have a few other harddisks though that I decided to add during manual
partitioning (namely, /opt, /opt
I have issue too now. Looking in /var/log/apt/history.log I noted:

Ok, issue solved. Because my home partition had run full and therefore I
wanted to get rid of baloo-kf5, I had purged plasma-desktop :/. That's
the reason why autoremove deleted plasma-desktop-data I assume.
Reinstalling plasma-desktop fixed the issue completely.

@Murray Thank you for your comment. I could not find any package for
ubuntu that has this fixed. As it is an ABI breakage, as I understand,
any project that wants to use C++11 standard (let alone C++17) will want
to immediately start to demand and link with the new libxml++; so it's a
problem that

I have the same problem. After trying very hard to disable ipv6

I'm having the same issue here (xenial)... Quite annoying.
I hesitate to create a symbolic link to libEGL.so.375.39 as many people suggest

it's just the repainting of the window that stops. Only way to recover

I'm running ubuntu 18.04 and have the same problems with USB 3.0.
The ONLY way to get it to work at all ever is to turn iommu off in the bios
and use iommu=soft as kernel parameter (as is described as the "solution"
on many forums) AND I need to have certain device plugged into USB and/or
something
I bought a PCI Express USB 3.0 card to overcome the above... invain.
It performed better, in the sense that the xHCI host controller gets
less often unresponsive and that it just works with iommu enabled in
the BIOS as all the other USB did.
However, I STILL get a reproducible freeze up:
[ 5964.6
I can now 100% reproduce this:
1) Run an application to test that the connected USB3 device (a 3D camera)
works (cheese).
It works.
2) Power off the 3D camera.
This produces the well-known dmesg lines.
3) Power on the 3D camera; run cheese again: "No device detected".
4) sudo rmmod xhci_pci
Well, that only took you 9 years, to tell me that you won't fix it.
I had a hunch.
