I can confirm that with the upgrade from Breezy -> Dapper many Thinkpad
models (T40, T41, T42 and X40) that had fully functioning suspend to
disk working no longer work. As of the latest updates, I still don't
have it reliably working, although it works on every fifth or sixth
attempt.

I have some hopefully useful information about this bug. I have
discovered that I can introduce the bug reliably by taking the following
actions:
/etc/init.d/dbus restart
Then, I note that gnome-power-manager is not running. Next, I click the
