I got this bug today, when updating to the new kernel 2.6.27-7 in
Kubuntu.
My PC has a VIA chipset. It was not a problem before, upto Ubuntu
version 7.10, and it worked Ok in the newest Kubuntu 8.10 also at first,
but after this morning's updates the keyboard stopped working after
login.
What's
I beleive this is a well-known "feature" in the kernel itself. It
prioritizes file operations.
I can confirm this going on with .tar backups and beleive it's the same
phenomenon. When working with large files, the kernel uses so much
resources that the user interface part becomes sluggish or unr
I beleive this is related to bug #236141 (see my comment there) and that
it's the kernel which simply prioritizes I/O operations. In the kernel
team people have left frustrated over this and the unwillingness from
the team to do anything about it.
Sebastian, what should be done, in my opinion, is
This bug (or missing feature) is still present in Intrepid.
Gnome editor doesn't seem to have a setting for it either.

As I said above, this bug is in Feisty. In fact it's worse in Feisty
than in Dapper. In Dapper I could enable the "Other" menu and create a
"Wine" menu, but not in Feisty. The duplicate entries are more or less
consistent from Dapper to Feisty though.
Additional info: In Feisty, the "Other" menu i

I can confirm #1 and #2 in a clean install of the release version of

As for #1, I tried to create a new menu called "Wine", but it just went

Regarding the newly edited description:
This isn't limited to behavior after spawed-off dialoges finishes. As I

a simple search in Synaptic.
