My steps were:
$ sudo apt-get install mantis
While setting up Mantis, something went wrong, and dbconfig-common did
not manage to create a database for Mantis (maybe user error). So I used
dpkg-reconfigure:
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure mantis
And after that, having a working Mantis install, I notice

My stystem is having trouble with the alsasrc plugin (from gst-plugins-
base). When used in even a simple gstreamer pipeline, it causes 100 %
CPU usage and reports about dropped samples. I
This affects me too (Karmic 64 bit, beagle 0.3.9-3ubuntu1). It is really
annoying that the search icon dies. Not to mention how novice users
feel, not knowing how to get the beagle search icon running again
(without a restart)!
