I can also confirm this bug and I have a basic idea how to fix it:
if the GUI just checks if the group it creates already exists and if so errors
or searches a solution or whatever, it should work.

On my i386 machine the usplash works fine, only on my 64bit it doesn't,
though the ubuntu system that I put on a USB-stick works fine on the
64bit system so could there be something wrong with the 64bit build of
usplash ?

Well, I forgot to mention this, I found out some time ago that if I delete fd
and fd0 (which are made again every session/startup) that it will work
normally. Now I took out my floppy disk 2 days ago and it still keeps creating
fd and fd0.

been replaced with just command names, but those won't work for the

In 18.04 the systemd unit file for shibd is configured to run shibd as
the _shibd user instead of root. However, in previous versions this has
always been root. Therefore, (besides the problems with curl, see
#1776489 ) the upgrade results in shibd not working correctly since
@adam-omega Shibboleth 3.0 isn't packaged by Ubuntu or Debian yet and
will most certainly never land in 18.04.

The cause of this problem is very simple: sometimes the ownership of a USB disk
is not transfered to the group "plugdev", this needs to be fixed as users do
