While not the ideal solution, I have reverted the kernel back to the 3.2
kernel, which is supported. I should never have moved to the 3.8 kernel,
but at the time it actually fixed a bunch of use-cases which now are
fixed by using the 14.04 boxes. Moving forward, we will not be using the
HWE kernel

have a test to make sure that this sort of thing shouldn't happen. Also
I am a bit concerned that this might be an issue with upstart
determiniing if its in a container. The previous version should have
