I am affected by the same issue. Installed the t1-xfree86-nonfree
package.
Under /usr/share/fonts/type1/t1-xfree86-nonfree I see all the fonts but
the fonts.dir and fonts.scale files were not there. So I ran mkfontscale

restarted xfs,

Hey Bartosz, I could probably spend some time in the next week getting
that log file. Currently we have all systems using the proprietary
driver from VIA which has it's bugs, but at least we can use it.

If this get's fixed in 10.10, can the fix be back-ported to 10.04 LTS?
I am in charge of a business deployment where we are experiencing this
bug but we are sticking with the LTS release for obvious reasons.

I believe this bug is linked to this bug in GlusterFS
http://bugs.gluster.com/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=1188
Which has been patched. I'm having the same problem with my Ubuntu
Server 11.04 installation and need this fixed before I can continue
deployment.

Amen this needs to be backported to Lucid. It's the LTS release and we
have no plans to upgrade our environments until the next LTS release.

Installing the VIA driver available at
http://linux.via.com.tw/support/beginDownload.action?eleid=401&fid=701
resolves the issue for the most part except for the boot screen.
I moved the xorg.conf file it installs and the specified it specifically
for the MAC address of the thin client.

I can also confirm that this bug only seems to happen when there is a
keyring saved. I have an unencrypted keyring for these users so they
don't have to enter the password each time, if I delete the keyring I
don't see this bug.
Why oh why does Ubuntu have to have some many stupid quirks!!

I checked my samba server and it already had that workgroup setting
defined and set correctly. There must be something more to it than that.
Most of the users work fine but it seems randomly some users just act
