It seems that there was a configuration file obsolete.
In my case it was the file ~/.drirc
If you delete the file, glxinfo back.

I have a ATI MOBILITY RADEON X600 SE and have the same problems.
Jaunty can't run fglrx.
fglrx BREAK ubuntu, the open source driver not have enough power.
This need to be fixed before 9.04!! Go ATI release your new drivers such
as open source!!

Yes, It seems the fixating process. I found another possible duplicate:

It seems too old, this bug 234521 should have importance medium and fix
it soon (the another report it's from gusty and my report from jaunty!)
