Okay, I found a similar solution like jtappin. I turned off 'Locked' in
'Rate State', switched the Master Clock to 'int 96000' and turned
'Locked' on again. Master Clock switched back to 'int 48000' and
everything is fine, even the sound quality is better now.

I can confirm this. I use the same audio card and when playing mp3 files
with XMMS the playback is too slow, playing mp3's with Amarok the tempo
is okay but there're crackles. I'm on Kubuntu 6.10 and avoided to do an
