This probably is the same cause as in Bug #341568, so i'm going to mark
it as duplicate of this. The re-installation of python-qt4-dbus made the
error message go away, but it looks like the symptoms are still there.

I was trying to apply the workaround for kde, but i always got the error
"Failed to activate desktop effects".
Here is what i did, to get this working:
1. Turn on "Enable desktop effects"
2. Switch to page "Advanced"
3. Turn off "Enable direct rendering"
