My workaround on alienware m15x with gtx 260m is every startup/every
suspend2ram cycle switch to vt1 back to active vt and click the "stealth
mode" button on my alienware on and off. I'm guessing this is enough to
reset settings.

It's the powermeter. It doesn't seem to do anything, but it does!
Turn it on (it'll turn a TINY bit brighter) and off again (or you'll
defenatly be unstable) and for me it's WAY better than it was atleast.
I've had some crashes, but only with the power cord out (which also adds
to instability :/
Worth mentioning that this is in 2.6.33, which wont be in karmic or
lucid, and it's a very simple fix (wrong assumption in the acpi code).
It should be atleast in lucid's kernel.

A : I can confirm that debug was there, and the output on the console is
different. However, plugging in the keyboard again didn't work,
regardless of usb port on the machine, and I can't get a response on ssh
either (or pinging the machine for that matter). Any ideas? I've

I tried using it and triggering a crash from a terminal. The alternate
kernel boots successfully, but the initrd for linux-crashdump is not
capable of loading my rpool.

I dont use the software center at all, but I do use the update manager.
Come to think of it I had a package stuck on updating too (third party
ppa), so it never gets installed. Maybe the update manager is hogging
the oneconf service and stays on, due to that one package not being
installed/updated
A little update to #6, I thought it was a package that failed to
install. But it installs fine, but still shows as updatable.
(Essentially I can do apt-get update forever and it'll still show). I
removed it now and we'll see if that helps :)

I suspect this is hardware related. My wifi will come online and be "up"
for a little bit before it's actually connected. In that period ping
returns nothing, then after a little bit of being up it "wakes up" and

Binary package hint: samba
Samba defaults to "unix password sync" off, but this package is
installed by default, and ignores that setting and sync's on it's own
initiative. I see NO reason why this should be installed by default.
Instead there could be a comment in the defaul
Sending a NOOP on the connection is such a small fix that this could
almost be considered a breadcrumb.
And I've also seen the 0byte file problem. It does not happen using
gedit (using gvfs), but it does happen using geany (using plain fuse). I
suspect gedit reconnects and saves properly.

I wanted to combine zfs encryption with dropbear and remote unlock.
1. I installed dropbear-initramfs and set that up. That works no problem.
2. I boot up the machine, connect via ssh no problem.
3. I am able to do zfs load-key rpool no problem.
4. Then... I need to kill the
