I moved some cables around and I was able to record some audio now but
there are buffer overruns so sections of the audio are missing. There
are still only 2 options available in Alsamixer.

I switched Audacity over to OSS and it appears that the buffer overrun

I installed Totem with the Xine backend and removed the one with the
Gstreamer backend and now the movies on Apple.com play correctly. I
think the Xine backend should be the default. I have used Xine for many
years. Never fails.

Ah, it appears I didn't fully understand CheckInstall.
However, the ultimate wish is to be able to set up (or use somebody
else's) repository for things such as ut2004, google-earth, etc., and
keep them up-to-date.
Packaging a 6GB .deb for ut2004 is obviously impractical, not to mention
probably
I disagree. The ut2004, quake, etc. ebuilds are in Portage /legally/.
They are simply wrappers for the real installers which are sourced from
installation media. I see lack of support for this type of package as a
fundamental flaw in Debian packages, and this is why I filed this
report.

Since upgrading to Edgy, my Audiophile 2496 no longer works with
HALAudioSink. Selecting my device from Sound Preferences and running a
test gives this log:

It seems it was asoundconf to blame. I recreated my
~/.asoundrc.asoundconf file with asoundconf and now everything works.

specifically in 6.06->6.10 upgrades, as asoundconf was previously the
backend to Sound Preferences in 6.06 A

very slightly different to the default implementation in GTK.

OK so the problem here is that Synaptic has a choice of either text-
only, icons-only, text-beside-icons, text-below-icons, or hide. The only
way to get the configured behaviour is to leave the setting alone. We
can either mess around adding a "use default" option, or we can just get
rid of the too

Since the fork was created, hardly any effort has been made to keep up
with fixes and improvements in Clearlooks, and has gradually become more
and more faulty.
This engine needs love.

HAL is marking all of my external volumes with volume.ignore
I'm surprised this works at all... FDI data is supposed to be static,
right?
I think GParted should be inhibiting automounting via G-V-M interface,
not via HAL interface.

4:3 and 1280x1024 is 5:4. The circular Ubuntu logo looks squashed like
