I also had this problem after upgrading from 9.10 to 10.04, but what I did was
to go to
System -> Preferences -> Appearance -> Visual Effects
and change from None to Normal
This enabled desktop effects and window borders, i.e. everything was normal
again. Then I went to
System -> Preferences -> S

If I understand correctly, the problem is in the debian/ubuntu specific files
and these are not included in the upstream repository.

I can confirm that this is indeed the case, though only the suffix (.tle
or .txt) has to be lower case. It is easy to correct and we will fix it
upstream.

Hi,
What do you mean with "ARRL TLE format", is that the verbose format?
Gpredict requires the NASA 2-line format as distributed by Celestrak, see e.g.

it will be closed when version 1.2 will be available in the distribution

I believe this problem to be fixed in the upstream code base but it is not
available in any official release yet. When I make a new release it will be
available in my PPA until the official Ubuntu package gets updated.

There have been some patches applied to the TLE updater in Gpredict
since the 1.1 release and some of them were indeed related to crashes
when updating from local files. It could be one of those you encounter.
