It's happening to me too :(, I have a Dell inspiron 9400 with nvidia
card GeForce Go 7900 GS. it seems to occur more when I'm using firefox,
but happened with other programs too but rarely. I'm considering to make
a downgrade to 7.10 which worked like a rock in the same computer.

also happen to me. nvidia 9400m, using ubuntu 64bits. flash non free and
flashblock too.
it's enough to do ctrl+alt+F6 and ctrl+Alt+F7 to solve, but in some cases even
the keyboard do not respond.

I have the same problem but only with compiz actived. I have a dell inspiron
9400. nvidia 7900 gs , drives v. 180
when I active the compiz the color depth seems to be changed down. xwininfo
command return depth 24 wherever, but it is not what I see.

I run the command "ubuntu-bug linux" but it returned that I not using official
ubuntu package and the process couldn't be completed.
I rebooted on my last working kernel ( 3.0.0-17-generic-pae) and got the same
message.
