It looks like most of the affected systems are laptops.
My screen is reported as LVDS. Bryce, what do xresprobe and xrandr say about
your display?
Could there be a difference between how LVDS and other types of displays are
treated?
I tried to test my system with external monitor, but unfortunate
xresprobe seems to work different for laptop and crt/lcd. For laptop it
seems to do DDC and xprobe, for lcd/crt only DDC.
If I run xresprobe with XRESPROBE_DEBUG=1 set, I get:

Tribe 5 gives colored blocks again, if installation is started without vga boot
option.
After installation is completed, xresprobe gives same results as above.
After installation, xresprobe has version 0.4.24ubuntu4.

I have the same problem. It started with tribe 4 update to kernel 2.6.22-10 and
also happens with a fresh tribe 5 installation.
I am using amd64 alternate installation CD's and also have a wired network
connection.

This seems to be normal behavior for processors with speedstep. The line "model
name" shows the maximum frequency for your CPU, the line "cpu MHZ" shows the
actual speed as adjusted by speedstep.
You may want to add the "CPU Frequency Scaling Monitor" to your panel to see
the actual frequency of
Up to kernel 2.6.22-9 I was able to get sound on my hda intel + realtek ALC268
by compiling alsa 1.0.14 with the files from realtek12.tar.
With the new kernel 2.6.22-10 this resulted in a not working snd-hda-intel
module. Loading this module reported a missing symbol: snd_hda_intel: Unknown
sym
I had the same problem earlier today. Getting libXdamage from the i386 package
solved the problem.
I have Intel GM965 graphics, so no proprietary drivers.

can you please check and report if you have installed package gcc-4.1-multlib?
If you don't have that package installed, please install and try to compile
again.
If you also have gcc-4.2 installed, you should also install gcc-4.2-multilib.

That probably means you are missing libstdc++6-4.1-dev, so you should install
that package.
As that seems to be a dependency of build-essential, you normally should
already have it. Therefor, please make sure you have build-essential installed.

Can't compile with -m32 on Gutsy Tribe 5 AMD64
Tested successfully in Gutsy with partimaged-server 0.6.4-17. The server did
not crash at login, the backup could be started.
Feisty uses the same version of partimaged-server.
partimaged-server changelog suggests this was solved in version 0.6.4-15:

* PAM support is back. Added empty_
This bug is solved in Feisty and Gutsy.
Nominated for Dapper and Edgy as this is a "crash" bug.
