It was a shortcut created by opening settings -> sound ages ago and
right clicking on the launcher and using "lock to launcher". I ended up
removing the shortcut and recreating it. I presumed the binary name used
by the new settings system was different from the old one, causing it

I just updated my mako from 97 to 98. When it first booted there was no
clock in the indicator but there was a clock on the welcome screen.
I unlocked and faffed about a little bit, and then when the screen
locked (after 2 or 3 times of unlocking and playing) the time was gone
from the welcome sc
This no longer seems to be an issue. I have left U-S-S doing ~33 updates
on my tablet and while it takes a while doing them, it is doing them in
the background.

Left #146 mako on settings main screen.
Locked both and left for 7 hours.
When I returned 133 was usable. 146 was unusable.

Sat on a wifi network with another non-Linux machine nearby on the same
access point. The Linux machine (Ubuntu 13.04 up to date) drops off the
network repeatedly. Network manager shows a constant connection. mtr
shows packet loss.

I don't know how long it's been happening. Unfortunately bug 1157114
means I rarely take the laptop out of the docking station, so it's
mostly on a wired network.

Tested wpasupplicant 2.0 from the PPA Timo suggested using the stock
raring kernel 3.8.0-17 but unfortunately it made no difference.
Also tried upstream 3.9 as requested and that too makes no difference.

I should point out I have two access points at opposite ends of the
house, with the same ESSID. The one nearest my laptop right now is the
only one it can see. It's a netgear wndr3700 running dd-wrt. The other
one is the same model but running openwrt.
The fact remains a macbook pro sat next to it

Interestingly there might be two separate issues here.
Last night I pulled the laptop out of the dock while running and got visible
corruption. Restarting compiz/unity had _no_ effect.
I restarted the machine and then much later I docked the laptop while running
and got the usual corruption. How
Tested those 3 kernels and unfortunately the same problem happens on all
of them. Results attached.

Incidentally while booted to 3.8.0-030800rc1-generic my disk became full
due to bug 811604 with /var/log/uvcdynctrl-udev.log spammed up to
55GB...
