another update: The tearing disapears when I attach a monitor to my
notebook and activate a large virtual desktop. With normal desktop the
tearing is still there.

The situation is quiet the same. I have selected a generic PC keyboard
with 105 keys, German layout with deactivated accent key.
Regular after reboots the layout is resetted to simply German. Diverse

Sorry, by adding the parameter "radeon.new_pll=0" to the kernel command
line the problem is not solved. I will upload a new set of logs with
apport-collect immediately.
If I remove the "splash" parameter from the command line Ubuntu boots
without flicker (and much faster).

I want to use the NetworkManager applet with OpenVPN extension. Sadly
this did not work.
I manually created a client.conf for OpenVPN. It is quiet simple:

I updated to Karmic two weeks ago. NetworkManager with OpenVPN plugin
now works. From time to time there are failed attempts, but only one or
two times. Then the VPN is stable.
The new issue I observed is that the VPN fails after (roughly) one hour,
