delay. Upon further investigation, the delay is just on sound output:
the opposite side hears audio immediately. This suggests some kind of
problem with a jitter buffer, or maybe pulseaudio.

Apparently cd and dvd drives are now treated like network interfaces:
they have their own 75-persistent* udev rule. So the best thing to do
is just remove all entries on /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules
and reboot. This should fix all the links.

This is happening to me *every time* I try to login using XDMCP (from
Cygwin), up to the latest updates on my Edgy box as of this moment.
Edgy was dist-upgraded from Dapper 3 weeks ago. Before the upgrade,
everything worked.
Just to be clear: I can login, but the symptoms after that are much like
Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but this problem does not show when I
start a KDE session.

It seems the latest proposed updates (includes some possibly related
kernel and dbus stuff) fixed my shutdown delay problems. People with
problems should give them a try, or wait until they get moved to regular
updates.

I have Feisty on a Toshiba A75-S206 with the same symptoms: "MP-BIOS
bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC" at boot, hangs constantly from

I have tested Gutsy with the latest Hardy development kernel
(2.6.24-2-generic), and the problem persists as specificed (byte-for-
byte inversion of MAC address). Attached is my lspci. This is from an

Any news on how to handle this on Oneiric? Neither yurivkhan's or
o.shybystyi's PPAs have been updated to 11.10 (and naturally, there is
still no way to configure this on Gnome itself).

Another workaround: if you don't need or use Tomboy's synchronization
features, you can try Gnote. It looks and works exactly the same (it
can even read the same note files), AND its hotkey support works with
11.04. It doesn't have an indicator icon yet, though.

Ok, one step closer to solving the mystery: it seems that sflphone does
not support Unity's new indicator icons. I had sflphone configured to
hide the main window on startup, and, well... it did. But since I
couldn't see the tray icon (or any other indication for that matter), I
couldn't use it.
And to top it off, sflphone's icon in the new Unity launcher is not
handled properly. Every time I click on it, a new sflphone window
opens, and there's no indication on the launcher that I had any previous
windows open.

I had a similar problem on my Asus U43JC which runs on an Intel i5-450m
(using Ubuntu 10.10). The BIOS would limit my frequence at 1.2GHz, no
matter what cpufreq governor I was using, no matter if on the power cord
