the first things I do is enable sharing via nautilus and it has usually
taken care of everything. That hasn't been the case this time.

Hi, I'm still having issues and had given up on Samba.
sudo: /etc/init.d/samba: command not found
Nothing related in /var/log, can upload it if you'd like to see it.
After purging, and reinstalling:
* Starting Samba daemons
[ OK ]
Seems ok, then I restart:
* Stopping Samba daemons
Same for me on an Acer Aspire One.
sudo modprobe -r -f ath5k
sudo modprobe ath5k
recognises the card but it wont connect.

I created the /var/run/samba directory and started the daemon and it appears to
