With the information you've provided I'm not convinced this is a sync
but a merge. You've listed some of our delta but gave no reason why any
of it should be dropped.
After a quick closer look:
- The *.postinst changes still look valid, but you haven't specified why they

@James: Im currently at a conference with limited wifi, but I checked
yesterday and I can consistently reproduce on my thinkpad + kvm. Any
chance you can publish those modded udev packages to a branch or PPA?
I'm happy to test and see if I can get anything useful

I'm using the server image, kvm+libvirt for the VM, here is the

Should note that the root disk is a qcow2 image, the two additional
images are raw dd'd images, each 100MB. I've also been sure to provide

We hit a similar / the same bug tonight while network booting a single
server many times over. The bug hit periodically, but when it did it
was repeatable for several boot cycles. See photo of the trace
attached. While I'm not sure its related to bug #818177, the frequency
