I bought a new motherboard and cpu. This motherboard doesn't support
AGP, but I had some old - but still working - PCI video card (it's
really PCI and not PCI-E). Unfortunately I have random crashes/freezes
just like I had with that person that I've installed Ubuntu on. After a
quick look it appear
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a person his pc (dual boot with Windows)
where it also had random crashes/freezes. When I switched off "visual
effects" it seemed better, but I only had less crashes on that system.

My parents have the same problem on their "AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+". At
one moment (after an update I guess), the black frame (where eg. the
Youtube video should be) changed to a white frame. But of course white,
black or some other colour: it didn't work :-(.

The same bug seems to be present in a Dutch setup (see screenshot
gcalctool_nl.png), because the Dutch word for "Undo" is "Ongedaan
maken", which makes the window too wide. That's why I've changed the

The workaround "LANG=C gcalctool" works, but it's very user friendly.

I tried the solution 'vanchuck' provided, but the libavcodec52 package
wasn't installed on my system. So I tried 'Sergey K' his solution and
this worked out (although I didn't installed some of the packages, but
better safe than sorry). Now totem did find and installed the plugin.
What I did was:
