You're welcome, amy!
I believe that this bug is EXTREMELY important. It should be fixed as
fast as possible.
There is no way to leave a system unbootable and hope that the regular
users will come back and try Ubuntu again some sunny day. Even stay with
Linux at all (when the best desktop Linux di

Though I made a clean reinstall of Ubuntu because of the experimental
state of xorg-edgers' PPA packages, I'll retest and see again what is
the situation now.
I'm going to update the packages from:

Today I tried 2.6.34 (for Lucid) and the default 1.7 X Server with KMS

So I suppose it's the driver version because the problem is gone now.
I used this PPA - https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates to
update the X.Org packages and there the only update that actually matters is
the radeon driver version which is 6.13.1.
Solved with:
kernel - 2.6.34
Do you want me to test the fix with the default kernel 2.6.32?

I'm going to wait a little. Now the system is running without KMS
support and the performance is pretty much the same as in Ubuntu 9.10.
I'll retest with xorg ver. 1.9 and Kernel ver. 2.6.35 when they're
pulled in the Ubuntu Maverick repo.
Thanks for your efforts, madbiologist!

Today I've tried the driver on my old machine with a TNT 2 Model 64

resolved by nVIDIA in the near future?

I know about the Nouvoeau driver in Lucid but after Jaunty, the newer
Ubuntu version use at least 100-150 mb more RAM than Jaunty, Intrepid,
Hardy and so on. And this computer is really old after all.
Thanks for informing me, papukaija!

Hi Pedro! ok, maybe it's not a good idea to resize it when the next
image is smaller but it is very confusing when you open a small image
(300x300, for example) and the next image is a lot bigger (1024x768, for
ex.).

Yes, the problem is gone with 2.6.32, too.
So it's only the driver version. Will you backport the needed code if my
presumption is correct?
