Also happens for me, Dell D630 laptop (64 bit) with Intel GMA 965. I
just upgraded from Kubuntu Hardy to Intrepid so I've no idea if this is

Colin, finally I tried booting with noapic. The problem appears to go
away (as with acpi=noirq) and it doesn't freeze the machine with
excessive USB activity (like acpi=noirq).
I'll try suspending and resuming next and see how that goes.

The program in question for me is Sibelius, which also has a delay.
Perhaps you can play around with optional switches when restarting
timidity... for example, the manpage for timidity says that the switch
"F" can introduce a delay. This may or may not solve the problem.

By the by... apport also gave me two options... to send a "complete"

reduced report. Odd.

As far as I know, this is different from my other bug (#350332), since
this is a resume failure, and not a suspend or hibernation failure.

To follow up on unggnu's original comment:
After experiencing a broken suspend (computer goes back to login screen
instead), the commands pm-suspend and pm-hibernate no longer output anything.
The computer does not go to bed.
