Go to terminal and open the xorg.conf file:
gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and add this line to the Section "Device" or the Section "Screen":
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals"

I used the Feisy install live CD and my screen is now working.

This is a known problem between pcscd and hald. But I could not find the
Ubuntu bug right now.
So you confirm that the initial problem "assert failure: *** glibc

is fixed in pcsc-lite 1.5.5?

Your pcscd is using libhal. You were supposed to recompile version 1.5.5 with

Have you rebuild and installed the packages for 1.5.5?

I have the same issue on a new installation of Ubuntu Lucid with a
French locale.
Seahorse creates a par_défault.keyring file in ~/.gnome2/keyring/, but
then it's not able to read it and spits out lots of errors in .xsession-
errors:
(seahorse:2137): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to set text from markup
I found a workaround: if I rename par_défault.keyring to
par_default.keyring, then it works

I guess you have 2 pcscd installed on your system.

This will generate "much more" of logs in user.log
Send me the logs from the start of pcscd, not just the latest lines.
