The issue as with bug 554569 is that the screen is not being properly
cut on by the i915 driver. So the backlight is on..but no graphics are coming
to the screen at all.

Issue is still happening. Just tried my 10.04 box with all the latest
updates. Not 100% sure how you are not able to reproduce.
1) Use usb creator
2) Try a 10.04 or 10.10 iso
3) Stick in usb stick
4) Wait while it installs iso to usb stick
5) When done .. check Nautilus .. you will

Based on info on your first report you had stuff on /dev/sdb .. it was
using swap from /dev/sdb6 .. this could be part of your issue. Can you update
your bios and see if Ubuntu will boot with /dev/sdb there. Also check the
/etc/fstab of the ubuntu install.

are recognized properly. Though brasero does not crash it now gives an

When I add debug= .. it gets all the way to the installer screen and
all is fine. So something else is up.

@Colin .. ok not sure what was up. But this bug looks invalid. Got a new
cd 9/20 .. somehow everything is fine now .. or there could be a race
condition.
I'll mark invalid. But test this out a few more times.

Tested with usb drive. Usplash does not come up and all you see on the screen
are I/O errors. You don't even get a message that says to press enter. Will
your work around in comment #7.

The work around works for the most part when installing over usb cd/dvd rom.
You nolonger have a bunch of i/o error messages and you are now prompted to
press ENTER.
The only thing you do not have plymouth splash screen. It's in all text.
The major issue is solved by the upstart fix.

Forget what I said. I actually had splash cut off (for debugging).
Everything works with usb cd/dvd with ubquity upstart file fix.
