The update works fine, and scaling rocks!
Scaling doesn't work with compositing WMs, though:
"Scaling does not work properly on composited windows. Disable the visual
effects and try again."

Furthermore, we can't remove packages from stable releases. We could
patch it so that it doesn't send messages without an ack or something.
BTW, I haven't seen bugs from Ubuntu to the GNOME packages in Debian for
a while.

I've launchpad fusion-icon when running metacity and it has killed my
window manager without launching compiz...
I haven't been able to replicate your issue, as fusion-icon stopped
