I've looked into this, but I've realized that patching it would mean
adding a new string, which doesn't look like a very good idea, specially
since for this to be useful, it should be chosen by default. I'm going
to open a request upstream to support xdg-open by default on systems
which support it.
I just got a crash with a similar backtrace. I opened an ogg video which
was placed on my Desktop with totem-gstreamer, though. The video was
