These lockups are probably not related to this bug. I've updated by Intel Sandy
Bridge laptop to 4.17.5 from Fedora 28 repository and now I have random CPU
lockups, too.

work for me either.
I was looking at the advanced tab (which looks fine).
The general tab still has things to big to fit the window.

And to confirm: now you are trying to revert the to the former normal setup and
just forward e.g. the USB devices itself.
I agree - all the settings in /sys about unbi
apport-collect 1782152 replies with "No additional information
collected" message.
But this issue is reproducible with any clean bionic desktop install
(since GDM needs to be the login managed).
It is NOT reproducible if I switch back to lightDM.

Looks like the text rendering occasionally gets an incorrect stride
value.
I wonder if this was at least partially fixed in:
