I grepped through all logs for "inot" and found no match (only the initial
inotify setup). So it seems sssd was not notified via inotify of the change.
That matches the behaviour that "strace" showed that "127.0.0.1" instead of
"127.0.0.53" was queried.

Joseph that seems to work as I uninstalled my fix and booted into your
kernel. I also posted a comment on bug #1542743 for that user to test
this to see if it works as the opensuse bug report states

I don't have nVidia graphics on any of my machines so I'm not familiar
with any issues except from people saying that it worked for them on the
forums.
There was a question where M. Plyer couldn't get a Live USB to work and
the 'nomodeset
I'll test tomorrow if try_inotify=false in the [sssd] section also works
around this issue, unless someone beats me to it...

When starting sssd in highest debug level, and then changing resolv.conf once
by doing:
$ touch foo
$ mv foo /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf
(that's where the link target is pointing to), I see the expected:

I don't know if there is a way to link or combine bug reports but see

install failed.
The internal solid state drive (/dev/mmcblk1) has 4 pre-installed partitions.
The first partition is 100MB and labeled EFI System. The desktop version of
Lubunto seems to work okay b

Same problem with an old Dell Inspiron 1545 recently upgraded to Ubuntu
18.04 (4.15.0-22-generic). After disabling Bluetooth in the Bios and
removing package Bluez, system is usable again.
