improvement for my situation.
Since an update today I can see the tty's again when fully booted and pressing
ctrl-alt-f2 but still unable to see them during slow boot.

I have the same bug in Ubuntu 16.04 for a few days now. Might be related
to the last update of ubuntu-desktop, but I can't figure out how to
downgrade to the previous version. I'm not sure if #1723422 also applies
to 16.04, as I don't have the package ubuntu-themes installed.

guidance-power-manager. After I lid up, I am at the login screen,
instead of the unlock screen dialog.
