After investigation, I found that with 4.8 kernel, when the PHY is enabled, the
link status is read from PHY.
However, there are bug in current codes in both Marvell 88E1512 PHY and
xgene-mdio drivers, the link status is wrongly read.
The issue can be resolved when applying two below patches:

workin local network. systemd-resolve and systemd-resolved stub listener
are behaving differently - the stub does not accept the domain/search

I too removed the references from /usr/local/lib and also from
/usr/local/bin and ran the 'sudo apt-get -f install' and it fixed
everything, including re-installing and configuring Python 3.5.
I suspect I caused the problem by manually installing Python to get
around the missing library problem

noticeable issues are that chromecast doesn't work anymore (known
upstream issue I guess), and flash's behaviour isn't the same as chrome.

I just found a solution. I was running Ubuntu on my Nvidia Graphics
card. I tried switching back to the Build-in Intel Graphics with the
Nvidia Control Center and ran dpkg --configure -a
This time things did work. The kernel configuration didn't hang anymore
and everything is working fine again. S

I am not sure what else i should have installed.
I want to use the current go 1.8 release and I took the (as i think)
appropriate meta-package, i.e golang-1.8.
