Then did a "dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc" as menitoned above, but right after then
removed the old kernels with synaptic.
Rebooted again, and got the same error: "symbol 'grub_term_highlight_color' not

It could be... hard to tell from the description. During 14.04 testing I
have had fully working sound and sound controls, no sound, and now sound
is working, but mute doesn't actually mute sound. Volume up and down
work. All sound control displays the proper notification on the screen,

I'm not sure our approach on phones should be held up as a benchmark
here, it was a pragmatic solution to rapid iteration on devices that
weren't built for Ubuntu. It's also code that we "control" (from the
point of view of us shipping it in the archive, us being able to audit
and fix it, etc).

No, it doesn't do any verification. Either the .iso file is corrupt (
check it with md5sum ) or your usb stick corrupted it after it was
written. Test the iso and if that is ok, format and recreate the usb
stick. If the iso is corrupt, then download it again.

was the window which had focus.
I don't know how it got the state. I could have locked it manually, it could

Fresh install of 14.04 on my laptop cannot adjust brightness. When
fn+up arrow or fn+down arrow are used, the indicator in the upper right
hand corner as if the brightness should change, but it does not. Also,

here: this isw array is still being activated by dmraid rather than

LVM during installation when installing to the RAID 0, otherwise I run
in to bug 1254374.
