I've been able to narrow down my issue to a single hard drive (ATA
ST1000DM003-1CH1 (/dev/sdc)). With this hard drive disconnected from the
computer, the liveUSB is bootable into the live ubuntu 13.10 64bit OS. An fdisk
list states that Disk /dev/sdc doesn't contain a valid partition table.

The brightess conrol key do not work right on kernel update 3.2.0-58 ->
3.2.0-59. The dialog does not pop up, and the brightness is not being
changed. It worked with previous kernel 3.2.0-58, at least till first
system sleep (closing the laptop).
