Opening the Dash will increase the memory usage of Compiz from 30 MiB to
90~100 MiB.

I faced the same problem when backporting to Debian/Stable (Wheezy).
It seems that you'll actually need a libAV* of the 9er series. For
Debian, these are in available through the backports repository. In my,
case, on Debian/Stable, I did the following upgrades
apt-get install libavcodec54=6:9.10
It's fairly likely this was fixed in the version in trusty. Could you please
check that?

Sorry about that - when I updated my sources.list to the trusty trunk I
added the trusty ppa for hexchat and didnt remove the saucy one and it
appears it updated to trusty then tried to install an update from the
saucy branch...sorry about the report I couldnt figure out what was
going on...
