On the same laptop, booting with the power plugged in causes this problem, but
everyting's fine when the power is plugged off.

I have tried to run it manually. It needs it just once after each reboot.
You can automate it by putting in rc.local.
In any case, after you run it once, you will get the message you told
me, but you will not get the crash on the next reboot (at least this
is the behaviour in my computer)

gvfsd-http stays connected (ESTABLISHED) for long periods of time after
I've used VLC to play streaming Youtube videos. This is the case even
after I've closed VLC. Plus when lsof finally stops reporting the
connection as "established" it will start reporting it as CLOSE_WAIT.
And it stays as CLOSE

This is probably related - I also found that plugging cable into the
HDMI port then unpugging causes internal speakers to go dead. The only
way to restore sound output through internal speakers is to plug into
headphones port then unplug headphones port - so
This doesn't look like a bug, you need to chose which port your Arduino
is connected to from "Tools"->"Serial Port" most likely it is
/dev/ttyACM0. If you don't do that it will give you the error you are
seeing.
