This is my valgrind log after using my patched packages for ~12 or so
hours. I wasn't able to observe the broken behavior, and additionally,
the leaks are no longer reported in the log.
We still do have a fontconfig leak, but that's unrelated here.

Apparently this is somehow a left-over device file, or so. In the gdm
log (see below) I found an error message about the keyboards device
file, event18 in my case. Whereas I can cat the file and see output once
I use the keyboard, indicating that it actually works concerning
kernel/driver.

I also ran in to this problem when I tried to upgrade my system from
precise to quantal. After hitting this bug and having the upgrade fail I
wasn't able to fix my system easily with confidence that I'd fixed
things, so I had to revert to backups. Fortunately this also means that

There is some issue with the 12.10 installer. When it offers the install
options it seems that under some conditions the installer proceeds
automatically (with no prompt at all) if the custom partition scheme is
choosen.

Running Ubuntu 12.04.1, kernel 3.2.0-32 the realtek wireless card works,
after upgrade to 3.2.0-33 the system boots without detecting it.
dmesg|grep rtl shows nothing (under 33, but works fine under 32).
The modules are rtl8273e and rtlwifi.
