I have a 12.04, installed shortly after the release and kept up to date.
Yesterday I was connected to a network with a proxy of the kind
described in the bug description above and today I saw the error

This looks like a regression. It worked for me before the last update.
Now I have the same issue. Also: this bug existed in the past (HUD
blocking all keycombos that use ALT) and was already fixed, as far as I
remember.

Same issue here on precise on Realtek hardware. I do not observe this
issue in my home router network, but using my Android hotspot. The
connection works first, but soon gets lost. As a workaround I can
disable/enable the wifi network via laptop switch and it immediately
reconnects.
