Shortcut for layout switching is set to Alt+Space.

An observation:
The focus follows the mouse, i.e. with the mouse over the password entry you
can use the up/down keys. When over the onscreen keyboard up/down doesn't
work. This is probably due to there not being a window manager running.

a simple workaround to stop the file from coming back is to delete the file,
then simply remove write permissions from the folder it's in:
chmod ugo-w ~/.config/indicators/messages/applications-blacklist

but display an wrong sized picture.
The width and height of the screen are not correct.
I have a 1920x1200 screen in portrait mode (which should be 1200x1920). The
