In my opinion, there is a fundamental problem wrt interworking between
udev and lvm during the init phase. Looking at scripts and source code I
found nothing which prevents the following to happen:
1) kernel boots with initial ramdisk
2) udevd of initial ramdisk is started by initrd.img/scripts/in

below the trash icon)? That could work fine with the wmctrl hack.

a USB Disk, when trying to install as an upgrade to my existing (11.04)
installation. After trying to shut down the computer (eventually
requiring a hard-off) the upgrade option had disappeared, so installing

The best way to get all the dependencies automatically installed on
oneiric is to uninstall the amd64 skype package, and install the i386
one. That will pull in all the right i386 dependencies.
For Oneiric, there shouldn't be an amd64 package.

Thanks for the information.
I just tried the extra stick of RAM again (adding an extra 2Gb to the existing
2Gb).
Unfortunately, I did not get a responsive desktop on either of my bootable
partitions

For someone with the build environment set up already this can't be a
difficult fix and would make life a whole lot easier for those people

write to it under Mac OS X, and did some searching online, and I seem
to remember reading that MOSX works better with ext2 formatting than
ext3, so I wiped my Linux partition, reformatted as ext2, and
