The proprietary drivers seems to cause this, because I have entered
recovery mode, uninstalled it, and set up nouveau, and everything is
working fine. The proprietary driver version was 256.3, I think.

I'm fairly sure this is a hardware issue.
One hardware interrupt is fired when Shift/Fn+NmLk is pressed for the
first time.
Subsequent presses do not result in further interrupts.
I am in the process of contacting Lenovo and will update when I know
more.

I have tried what you suggested. However Grub did not work in the way
you described. I used the suggested commands in grub boot menu to delete
the words you suggested and booted. It went to login at command line and
I couldn't because I did'nt know how get any further.

On my machine I don't really want to test an alpha release of a kernel,
but I gave a try to #127. It doesn't boot on my laptop (core i5 540),
but I think that's not connected with graphics but something else.

I've updated my Lucid Installation to the latest Maverick alpha and
downloaded the newest packages. This *does not* help for me. The boot
splash shows up after grub but the screen still goes blank after a
fraction of a second.

A very similar thing just happened to me with Ubuntu 10.04, kernel
2.6.33-02063305-generic and an HP EliteBook 8540p laptop.
I put the machine into suspend, and an hour or so later revived it. It
failed to wake up properly and I had to manually power-cycle it. Since
then, the WiFi/wireless interfa
modem-modeswitch is deprecated and got removed from udev upstream (See
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/hotplug/udev.git;a=commitdiff;h=4dd9b291354e76f34b0d6d7b5c3b28d03a624418).
Upstream recommends using usb-modeswitch now, so we really should switch
that in maverick still. Unfortunately we missed F

Works, on unattended servers or 'Joe Sixpack' machines where we can't or don't
want to bother the user with something they do not care about and don't

the installation location was changed, I don't think it's a good idea to
change that after FF, possibly breaking stuff depending on python-numpy.

Hi, I've got the same problem with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
It happens mainly when I start Update Manager, and even if the program start
himself.
