Ubuntu 10.04, 64 bits, up to date.
Deactivating quickstart makes the first file much too long to open.
So I downgraded ubuntu 10.04 to 9.10 on 3 computers.

Thank's a lot russ_armst, deactivating compositing_manager worked, what a
relief! This thing has been bothering me way too much, stealing a lot of
work-time.
The circumstances for this annoyance 'seems' to be quite different but the
annoyance per se is the same
first you have to add an account for any IM protocol and when empathy is
functioning click on edit>account and then you can create irc account.
in simple words you should have atleast on account set before creating
an IRC account. its a known bug

I do not know if this might help but what I did on my 64-bit Lucid
Desktop is I maximized window (if it isn't possible to maximize it, just
resize it) after a successful authorization. The "Add" or "Save" button

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 on EEEPC 901 (Ralink rt2860). I had this bug too.
With the new release, I also had the bug #496093

to WPA/WPA2 mixed mode wifi.

This is not an issue with xulrunner-1.9.[13], because as per the
attached Dependencies.txt, Dan has xulrunner-1.9.2 installed.
This issue is affeting me here on lucid/amd64, too. It suspectedly
appeared after updating to linux-2.6.32-23 from lucid-proposed.
I will just reboot to linux-2.6.32-22 a
