I have tested this workaround, and it does not work for x64 OS.
Having searched all the bugs listing the issues with the RTL8192E
driver, I discovered that no official bug has been setup for the Karmic
AMD64 OS. This is the closest thread I've found. I have found

So, for the most part this is all obviously sensible. The installer can
and should create partitions with optimal alignment (and I've made that
change, pending testing), and it makes complete sense for mkfs.ext4 to
complain when you do something that will result in poor performance.

I'm experiencing the (same?) problem with Lucid (and autofs-ldap).
After rebooting, one time it works... another time not (until autofs is
manually restarted)
That does sound like an upstart race condition.
Unfortunately, this is quite important for enterprise environments :-(
